The Ultimate Military Obstacle Course
Name: Emma Hughes
Home town: Telford
Hi, my name’s Emma. I’m mum of two: Oakley, who’s five years Old, and Chester, who is one-and-a-half years old and has cystic fibrosis (CF). I am currently serving in the British Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police. Two of my aunties sadly passed away from CF about 40 years ago and my son Chester was diagnosed on 26 May 2013 following surgery after suffering from a bowel obstruction at birth.
Having joined the CF family after Chester’s diagnosis I started to take on challenges to raise awareness and money; with CF I often feel helpless, but this allows me to feel like I am actively doing something to beat it.
I took part in Born Survivor last year with my husband and sister-in-law and absolutely loved it! It was so nice to be around others supporting this amazing charity and also to meet some CF parents I had spoken to but never met. I want to continue to raise money and awareness through endurance events.
The best part of Born Survivor for me was that I loved the mud! I also loved how everyone was so friendly and made the atmosphere amazing, the guys taking the warm-up made it great fun and I am looking forward to dressing up and running my socks off again!
This is an amazing opportunity to take part in something that will test you physically and mentally; it will bring about a sense of pride at having completed something so hard and will also bring great pleasure knowing you have helped raise vital funds and awareness of CF.
Don’t forget if you raise more than £199 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, you get to take part in Born Survivor for free! So, what are you waiting for? Join Team CF today!

Born Survivor isn’t my only challenge of the year. I am also planning on taking on some other challenges for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, which is all part of my ‘1,000 miles of running in 2017’ challenge!
